Technology firm’s Cloud Services Unit membership reaffirms its commitment to security, data protection for business enterprises

Ridgeland, Mississippi (February 13, 2017) – The cloud services unit for C Spire, a diversified telecommunications and technology services company, has joined the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), the world’s leading organization dedicated to defining and raising awareness of best practices to help ensure a secure cloud computing environment.

C Spire’s cloud unit provides a broad range of advanced data and cloud services through its Uptime Institute-certified Tier 3 commercial data center located on a 6.5 acre site at the Thad Cochran Research, Technology and Economic Development Park in Starkville, Mississippi. The company opened the center in 2014.

The 23,800 square foot purpose-built facility is the only one of its class within a 250 radius of its location, meets SOC, HIPAA and PCI requirements and uses premium providers on all critical systems.

“Our state-of-the-art data center and significant buried fiber network positions C Spire as the premier provider of back up, disaster recovery, business continuity and cloud-based information technology solutions in the Southeast,” said Kevin Hankins, COO for C Spire. “Our portfolio also incorporates best-in-class technical service provided by in-region staff who work personally with customers to manage a secure transition to the cloud.”

Hankins said cloud services represent the future of evolving enterprises and advanced technology trends like Internet of Things (IoT), analytics and container technologies are dramatically transforming IT systems in most organizations.

“We’re pleased that C Spire Business Solutions has joined our organization and will share its growing knowledge and expertise as our industry continues its efforts to help enterprises address the new frontiers in cloud services and security,” said Jim Reavis, co-founder and CEO of the Cloud Security Alliance.

A 2016 CSA survey found a growing number of IT professionals consider cloud platforms to be equally or more secure than on-premise systems1. The survey found 65 percent of IT leaders believe that cloud-based systems are either more secure than on-premises software or equally secure.

“We look forward to working with C Spire to share and broaden best practices, research and knowledge as the industry works to create and maintain a more trusted cloud ecosystem for enterprises,” said Reavis, who will be a keynote speaker next month at C Spire’s Information Security Summit in Jackson, Mississippi.
